Fairhope will begin testing a downtown outdoor warning siren. The outdoor siren, situated on top of the Welcome Center, is to alert citizens who are outdoors in the downtown area of an imminent hazard and prompt them to go indoors and seek further information. The siren will be tested the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. 1. What does it mean when I hear the outdoor warning sirens? In short, it means a tornado warning has been issued in our area by the National Weather Service or there is a thunderstorm producing life-threating winds. 2. What should I do when I hear the outdoor warning sirens? When the sirens are heard, go inside and tune to local media to get more information. For alerts indoors and other areas, every home and business should have a Weather Radio or an emergency weather notification app on their phone. A Weather Radio is like a smoke detector for severe weather, and it can wake you up when a warning is issued for your area so you can take appropriate action.
