Exhibit Opeing: MEGALODON: LARGEST SHARK THAT EVER LIVED, presented by ExxonMobil
Saturday, Jan 28, 2012 through Sunday, May 06, 2012
Take a journey through our ancient oceans with Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived from January 28 to May 6, 2012 on display in the Exploreum's new 6,400 square foot traveling exhibit gallery!
At 60 feet long, Megalodon was the largest shark that ever lived and a dominant marine predator for 15 million years. The Gulf Coast Exploreum will tell this remarkable story with its exciting, new exhibition, Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived, coming to Mobile Bay on January 28, 2012 with support from presenting sponsor ExxonMobil.
Though Megalodon vanished 2 million years ago, its fascinating story inspires lessons for science and shark conservation today with this family-friendly, interactive, hands-on exhibit. Visitors enter a full-size sculpture of Megalodon through massive jaws and embark on a journey through this fantastic ancient creature and the world it inhabited-- its size, structure, diet, lifespan, relatives, neighbors, evolution, extinction and the science that continues to reveal Megalodon's tale.
Be consumed with awe, walk away with respect!
Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived was produced by the Florida Museum of Natural History, Gainesville, with support from the National Science Foundation.
