Mobile Symphony goes casual for Beethoven & Blue Jeans Nov. 7 & 8 at the Saenger

The Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is going casual for Beethoven & Blue Jeans, Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2:30 p.m. at Mobile’s historic Saenger Theatre. This thrilling concert features two of Beethoven’s biggest hits: the iconic Fifth Symphony and the beloved Fifth Piano Concerto.

“Dress down for one the most uplifting concerts of the year. This program contains TWO fifths of Beethoven – the symphony and the piano concerto,” Scott Speck, music director, explains. “Beginning with the most famous four notes in music history, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 is the ultimate journey from struggle to triumph.

“The majestic Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Emperor”) features the sensational virtuosity of pianist Stewart Goodyear, joining us for the first time,” Speck adds. “And the concert begins with Seven O’Clock Shout, Valerie Coleman’s moving and electrifying tribute to frontline workers during the pandemic.”

This annual casual concert encourages audience members to join the orchestra in wearing jeans if they like. The concert sends a message that people can come as they are for any concert. There is never a dress code – just great music!

Tickets are $25-$102. Six-concert season subscriptions are available for $132-$462. Tickets and subscriptions can be purchased online at mobilesymphony.org, by phone at 251-432-2010 or at the symphony box office, 257 Dauphin Street. Bring a group of 10 or more and receive 20% off your order!

Student tickets are $10. Through MSO’s Big Red Ticket program sponsored by the Figures Foundation, students in grades K-12 can attend Sunday’s performance FREE when accompanied by a paying adult. More details can be found online at www.mobilesymphony.org.

Beethoven & Blue Jeans is sponsored by Volkert, the Mary Josephine Larkins Foundation and Iving & Frances Silver. Alabama Public Radio is the media sponsor. All concerts have been made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

MSO’s next concert is Swing into the Holidays featuring jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling, on December 12 & 13 at the Saenger Theatre.

The Saenger Theatre has implemented new security procedures for all events held at the theatre. To ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable and seamless experience, all patrons will be screened by walk-through magnetometers. Only non-clear bags no larger than 5.5" × 8.5" × 2", clear bags no larger than 12″x6″x12″ and medically necessary bags will be permitted inside the theatre.
