MOBILE, Ala., October 5, 2023 – Bishop State Community College is proud to announce the grand opening of its Center for Nursing and Health Sciences at 11 a.m. on October 10, 2023.

The Center for Nursing and Health Sciences reaffirms the college’s commitment to providing the highest quality healthcare education and serves as a beacon of innovation with facilities that will empower students to excel in their healthcare careers.

Among its outstanding features are high-fidelity nursing simulation suites and fully functioning physical therapy labs. These advanced resources will enhance the learning experience, enabling students to gain practical skills and hands-on training crucial for success in their respective fields.

“The Center for Nursing and Health Sciences stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing our students with state-of-the-art facilities, cutting edge resources, and unparalleled educational experiences,” said Dr. Andrea Agnew, Dean of Health Sciences.

"Our programs and rigorous curriculum show our commitment to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals, and with the addition of this facility, we are confident that our students will be well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry,” she said.

In the Mobile Bay Region, which includes Mobile and Baldwin Counties, the healthcare sector represents nearly 40,000 jobs, or 14.3% of total employment. Annual demand for healthcare workers is more than 2,500, with the largest demand for registered nurses and nursing assistants.

"The healthcare industry is experiencing unprecedented growth and demands for skilled professionals, and Bishop State is well-positioned to meet industry needs by growing students in an immersive learning environment and allowing them to bridge the gap between theory and practice,” President Olivier Charles said.

“By forging strong ties with local hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and rehabilitation facilities, we are not merely shaping students' futures; we are building a pipeline of dedicated professionals ready to serve the healthcare needs of our community,” he said.

The Center for Nursing and Health Sciences at Bishop State Community College offers programs in nursing, health information technology, and physical therapist assistant, providing students with a diverse range of opportunities to embark on rewarding careers in the healthcare sector.
