Mobile Ballet Presents Sleeping Beauty with Live Orchestra And Sleeping Beauty Tea Fundraiser

Mobile Ballet will present Sleeping Beauty March 23-24 at the Mobile Civic Center Theater, with performances on Saturday, March 23, at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 pm. Both performances will feature the Mobile Ballet Orchestra playing the iconic score live, led by conductor David Ott.

Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and a cast of fantastical characters will captivate audiences, in this new adaptation by Katia Garza after the original by Marius Petipa. In this full-length ballet, the malevolent fairy Carabosse curses Princess Aurora to 100 years of slumber by a single prick of her finger on her 16th birthday. Doomed by fate, only a prince's loving kiss can break the evil spell and awaken the sleeping beauty. Mobile Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty will transport you on a mystical journey in this timeless story where good versus evil and the power of love overcomes all obstacles.

This enchanting ballet is a masterclass in the classical style, ideal for lifelong ballet lovers as well as newcomers. Outstanding guest artists will join the Mobile Ballet Company onstage, including principal dancer Nayara Lopes of Philadelphia Ballet as Princess Aurora, Daniel Benavides as Carabosse, and more. Come experience classical ballet at its finest! Tickets are $22-$66 at www.mobileballet.org

Mobile Ballet will also present a fully-staged performance of Sleeping Beauty for area K-12 students through their Discover Dance program on Friday, March 22, 9:30 a.m. at Mobile Civic Center Theater. Field trip tickets are $5 for students and free for teachers. School groups may reserve seats at www.mobileballet.org, or call Mobile Ballet at 251-342-2241.

Mobile Ballet’s “Sleeping BeauTea” will be held Sunday, March 10, 2pm – 4pm at their NEW Eastern Shore Studio location at 26150 Equity Drive, Daphne, AL. At this fantastical fairytale tea party, guests of all ages will enjoy delicious treats, a special performance by Sleeping Beauty cast members, story time, fun photo ops and activities, a raffle, and more!

Presented by the Mobile Ballet Barre volunteer association, this special event raises funds for the Relevé Project, Mobile Ballet’s tuition assistance program established to help reduce the financial burdens that prevent children from accessing dance training. Tickets for this event are available at www.mobileballet.org/sleeping-beauty-tea.
