MOBILE, Ala., March 7, 2023 - Members of Bishop State Community College’s Alpha Epsilon Nu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society won seven awards at the PTK Regional Hallmark Award conference in Huntsville on March 3-4, 2023.

The PTK students won in the following categories:

- 5-Star Chapter

- Distinguished Chapter

- Excellence in theme for Honors in Action project

- Distinguished Officer - Katlyn Sampson

- Distinguished Member - Jadan Gainey

- Paragon New Advisor - Lydia Host

- Paragon New President - Olivier Charles

President Olivier Charles is one of 28 presidents across the nation that will be awarded the Paragon Award for New Presidents during PTK Catalyst 2023, the Society’s annual convention in Columbus, Ohio, April 20-22. To be eligible for this award, college presidents and CEOs must be new in their role having served less than 3 years. President Charles was nominated by Bishop State’s PTK students because of his active interest in supporting high-achieving students and developing student leaders on campus. He is only eligible to receive the award once. President Charles was selected from among 406 college presidents, chancellors, and CEOs eligible to receive this award.

“These students just knocked it out of the park!” says Lydia Host, PTK advisor and art instructor. “There are such amazing student leadership skills developing here at Bishop State. Our chapter members were also chosen to speak in front of the entire assembly in 6 out of the 10 groups. We have excellent support from our administration and we are so PTK Proud!”

Bishop State’s PTK students are now planning their campus induction ceremony on March 24th and then Catalyst, the National meeting for PTK chapters in April.
