Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra Season Finale, May 1, 2:30 p.m.

Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra Season Finale, May 1, 2:30 p.m.

The Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra’s (MSYO) season finale will showcase the Gulf Coast’s most talented student musicians, under the direction of acclaimed international conductor Dr. Iván del Prado, Sunday, May 1, 2:30 p.m., at the Saenger Theatre. This regional youth orchestra draws students from three states and 18 schools. The concert includes works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Elgar and Sibelius and features performances by the MSYO Concerto Competition winners.

The Concerto Competition is an opportunity for outstanding high school musicians to earn the privilege of performing as a featured soloist with a full orchestra. Winners are selected by a panel of professional musicians not affiliated with the MSYO.

Winner Dominic Luthje, a senior at Daphne High School, will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra in C Major, and Holt Templeton, a senior at the Alabama School of Math and Science, will perform the adagio from Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor.

Each year’s season finale is an exciting concert showing the amazing accomplishments of all the young musicians in the orchestra. “Since the MSYO is comprised of the best student musicians in the region, our concerto competition is particularly rigorous,” Mobile Symphony President and CEO Celia Mann Baehr explains. “We are pleased to offer this unique learning opportunity. We are proud of them all!”

Admission is $10 for students, $20 for adults when purchased in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets and more about the MSYO can be found at www.mobilesymphony.org or call the Mobile Symphony at 251-432-2010.
