Daphne-Based Baldwin Bone & Joint Spotlights June: National Hand Therapy Awareness Month

DAPHNE-BASED BALDWIN BONE & JOINT SPOTLIGHTS JUNE:

NATIONAL HAND THERAPY AWARENESS MONTH

Daphne, Ala. (May 30, 2023) – Our hands play an invaluable role in how we live our lives, performing actions that help make us who we are. When injury or disease of the bones, nerves, joints, and muscles threatens their functioning, overall quality of life is at risk of being sidelined as well.

Recognizing the crucial role that hand therapy plays in rehabilitating patients with hand and upper extremity injuries, Baldwin Bone & Joint will join the American Society of Hand Therapy and other orthopaedic organizations across the country to celebrate Hand Therapy Awareness Month in June.

Hand therapists are highly trained professionals, who provide individualized treatment plans and rehabilitation programs to patients with a range of conditions such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, and sports injuries. Their expertise is vital in helping patients regain function, reduce pain, and increase strength, flexibility, and dexterity in their hands and upper extremities.

Through education and advocacy, we can spread the word about the vital role that hand therapy plays in promoting hand health and restoring function, so that more people can benefit from this specialized form of care." Davis holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of South Alabama, licenses from ALBOT, FLBOT and NBCOT and has practiced as a certified hand therapist since 2017. She is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists and is a former communications chairperson of the Alabama Occupational Therapy Association.

Davis is an integral team member with Dr. Allison Hunter, fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon, and actively provides care for patients with injuries and conditions from the shoulders to the fingertips.

"The integration of Leslie Davis in our clinic flow and pre-operative and post-operative care has been a tremendous benefit to our patients. We can now offer on-site hand, elbow, and shoulder therapy, and can provide seamless evaluations and treatments as a team,” Hunter said.  (PHOTO: Allison Hunter, M.D.)

In addition to hand therapy, Baldwin Bone and Joint also offers in-office, outpatient surgical procedures Including trigger finger, carpal tunnel, and finger mass excision.

"We want our patients to have a very fluid process when it comes to transitioning from seeing the doctor for surgery or general treatment to ensuring that they're getting back to what's important to them. That may be sport or gardening or just being active in their community. It is our goal that each patient is satisfied with their ability to return to doing what they love. We strive to make sure our patients have the best journey back to recovery," Davis said.
