Mobile International Airport Awarded FAA Southern Regional Air Carrier Safety Award

Mobile International Airport Awarded FAA Southern Regional Air Carrier Safety Award

MOBILE, Ala. (July 11, 2022) – The Mobile International Airport (BFM) was recently awarded for its excellence in aviation safety.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Southern Division named BFM as the recipient of the 2021 Air Carrier Safety Award.

This awards program recognizes airports that have taken actions, instituted programs, or operated in a manner deserving of special recognition for improving airport safety.

The Airport, in large part, can attribute this award to its Full-Scale Triennial Exercise held last November that simulated an emergency landing and rescue effort in the waters of Mobile Bay. This exercise involved so much more than the Airport and its infrastructure. It was supported by the City of Mobile, U.S. Coast Guard, and Mobile County Emergency Management Agency. Airport operations staff and community partners tested their response times, alert notifications, water rescue operations, and interagency communications.

The Mobile Airport Authority is extremely proud and honored to receive this recognition from the Federal Aviation Administration,” said Chris Curry, Mobile Airport Authority President. Safety is our first and foremost priority, and I am very proud of our team’s work to ensure our airports are safe and secure.
