SWDA Brings Hands-On Environmental Education to Baldwin County

Summerdale, Ala.

— The Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA) of Baldwin County recently

launched its Waste and Recycling Mobile Adventure, a 24-foot hands-on environmental education

trailer designed to engage Baldwin County residents of all ages, for schools, events and

neighborhoods across the Gulf Coast. The Mobile Adventure has already hit the road this summer

visiting the Town of Silverhill Alabama’s Back-to-School Bash, the Bay Minette Rotary Club, and the

Baldwin County Commission’s America 250th Celebration at the Daphne Civic Center, with several

additional visits scheduled this year.

Upcoming stops for the trailer include the Jubilee Festival of Arts on October 17 and 18 at Lott Park

in Daphne, and The North Baldwin Chamber’s Christmas Fest on December 11 and 12 at the Bay

Minette Downtown Square.

Featuring five interactive learning stations, each offering activities and real-world demonstrations,

the education trailer will support SWDA’s recycling, waste management, and sustainability

education and outreach efforts in Baldwin County and surrounding areas. Visitors to the Mobile

Adventure can expect:

● Interactive stations explaining proper material sorting and recycling processes

● Age-friendly educational materials for students, families, and community groups

● Onsite staff to guide activities and answer questions

“We’re excited to offer a fun, accessible way for residents of all ages to learn what really happens

when they recycle,

” said Terri Graham, CEO of SWDA,

“This mobile classroom allows us to

continue to raise awareness and educate our community about the importance of recycling and all

the ways we can work together as a community for a cleaner, more sustainable Baldwin County.

”

SWDA received the maximum grant award of $148,752.00, from the Alabama Department of

Environmental Management (ADEM) to expand its recycling education and community outreach

efforts with the Waste and Recycling Mobile Adventure. ADEM serves as the administrative agency

for recycling projects funded under the Alabama Recycling Fund Grant Program.

The Mobile Adventure will be available for school visits, community events, festivals, and outreach

programs throughout the year. For more information on the Waste and Recycling Mobile Adventure,
